Christi and Ryan Dalton always knew they wanted a big family and were excited for baby #4. Excitement definitely described the day when baby Evan decided to enter the world - since Ryan, an attorney in Lancaster, was 3 ½ hours away at a client meeting. Living two houses away from the hospital wasn't going to help in this case. "I remember calling him and saying 'don't even think about dropping a file off at the office, please hurry home!" Christi fondly recalls. Fortunately Ryan was able to get home quickly and in enough time to even walk the ½ block to the hospital.
Christi's first two children, Kaitlin (4) and Emily (3), were born at larger hospitals before they moved to Lancaster. "I noticed a big difference right away at Grant Regional – I was surprised and really happy to know that my doctor who cared for me during my pregnancy would be the same doctor during my delivery – something that I know isn't a common thing anymore. At the larger hospitals, I actually met the doctor the day the baby was born." Christi's third child Logan was born when Grant Regional's new Obstetrics department was under construction.
"During my labor with Evan (baby #4), I really appreciated the spacious room and comforts of home from the remodeling… especially my own whirlpool tub. And Dr. Huebschman and the OB nurses were so caring and so involved in my labor, making sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. They really "babied" me before the baby came! I had never had the convenience or comfort of a whirlpool tub during labor and couldn't believe the difference it made for my back pain and contractions. I'll definitely be ready to use that again for baby #5," smiled Christi.
