Katherine (Kate) Reuter, APNP, RN, CPNP-PC, of Grant Regional Health Center, was recognized this week as a recipient of The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses (The DAISY Award). Kate Reuter started her Nursing career at Grant Regional Health Center twenty years ago as an RN. Throughout her career she grew her education and credentials adding certifications in Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, and Family Nurse Practitioner. Kate has been serving in her current role of Family Nurse Practitioner at Grant Regional Community Clinic since 2018.

The DAISY Foundation, which stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstems, was established in 1999 by the family of Patrick Barnes. Nurses across the world can be nominated to receive a DAISY by anyone in the organization - patients, family members, other nurses, physicians, other clinicians, and staff - anyone who experiences or observes extraordinary compassionate care being provided by a nurse.

Kate’s nomination highlighted the hard-working, compassionate nature she has earned the reputation for. It reads, “Kate is always ready to step up to the plate in any situation, while also being the calm in an emergent situation. On one occasion when the ER was overwhelmed. she answered the call for help by finishing up her clinical day and went straight up to the ER to assist, jumping right in to help troubleshoot.”

Kate’s DAISY Award nomination continues by adding, “Kate utilizes her resources to find the best solution for patients and co-workers. She is the true definition of being a team member. She is a nurse that has been in many situations over the years and uses those experiences to help educate others whether it be a patient or co-worker. Kate continues to go above and beyond, with a willingness to always utilize her nursing skills, which in the end makes her an amazing provider.”

Five nurses at Grant Regional Health Center were nominated for the DAISY Award in the past six months. Grant Regional Health Center accepts nominations for the DAISY Award throughout the year, and the nomination committee reviews from these nominations to select a recipient twice in the year. During each DAISY Award Ceremony, partners serve cinnamon rolls in honor of Patrick Barnes. Barnes routinely requested this treat to nurses who cared for him during his illness, as a way to share his gratitude to them.

Tami Chambers, Chief Clinical Officer at Grant Regional Health Center explains “It’s our hope that whenever nurses smell or taste a cinnamon roll, they will be reminded how special they are, and the positive difference they are making. Nurses make the world a better place, and its our privilege to salute and honor them through the DAISY Award.”
