A team that feels like family

When work feels like family
and sometimes it is.

Sisters Mackenzie, Madalyn, and Morgan – not only share the same last name - they also share the same place of employment. Once Mackenzie experienced working at Grant Regional Health Center (GRHC) with its positive work environment and dedicated, compassionate crew, it didn’t take her long to convince other family members to join her where she worked.

“It’s special to work with family members because it’s great working with people who you completely trust and can turn to at all times,” said Mackenzie. “It creates a special bond within the relationship.”

“Mackenzie recruited everyone to work at GRHC by telling us how great it is to work here,” explained her sister Morgan.

Why Grant Regional?

Mackenzie: I’ve been a nurse for six years. I came to work at GRHC in 2018 looking for a change to a hospital setting. My mother had clinicals here when she was in nursing school and there was an opening, so I applied.

Morgan: I always knew I wanted to do something that involved helping people. I went to SWTC and got my CMA. I worked for 2.5 years doing this. When I found out I was pregnant, I decided to do registration which would be easier on my body. I chose GRHC because of all the great things I have heard about working here.

Madalyn: I started working as a CNA in a nursing home when I was 16. I ended up coming to GRHC as a CNA to get some experience in the hospital while going to nursing school. My older sister, Mackenzie, had been working here for a few years at that time and had many good things to say. I worked here as a CNA for a little over a year before hearing about the nurse internship opportunity. I thought that would be a great experience so I applied, got the position, began working as an intern, and will continue to work at GRHC after graduation as an RN.

How does the culture here complement your nursing philosophy?

Mackenzie: I try to focus on educating patients. I really want them to understand what is happening and why throughout their stay. I enjoy educating parents in OB.

It’s special to work with family members because it’s great working with people who you completely trust and can turn to at all times. It creates a special bond within the relationship.

Morgan: I always make sure to smile at each patient and see how their day is going. You never know what someone is going through, so I always make sure to be kind.

I don’t get to see my mom or sisters since they work nights, but I will see them at the beginning of my shift or end of my shift sometimes. It is always cool to be talking to people and they ask “are you Jeanne’s daughter?” or “are you Mackenzie and Maddie’s sister?”

Everyone is great. They really make it feel like a team and I always know I am cared for.

Madalyn: The culture here at GRHC has always been so positive and welcoming. Everyone is always willing to answer any questions and take advantage of teaching opportunities to allow me to learn from them. As a nurse intern, I’ve learned so much and have gotten many opportunities to learn new things and practice nursing skills.

What’s the highlight of your day?

Mackenzie: I love all of my co-workers - they truly make coming to work so enjoyable. I feel I make a difference by giving my patients a listening ear and really trying to understand them.

Morgan
: My highlight each day is helping patients. Healthcare is such a rewarding field no matter what part of it you are in. I also love working with my co-workers. They really make it feel like a team.

Madalyn: The highlights of my days are working with excellent co-workers, learning new things, practicing skills, and spending time caring for patients. I try to make a difference by keeping a positive attitude and making a positive impact on someone’s day.
