Local Cold Weather Exercise Opportunities

Staying in an active routine can be difficult during the unpredictable Midwest weather we experience throughout the year in Southwest Wisconsin. This is especially true if you are at a high risk for falls or suffer from certain conditions that make outdoor exercise difficult. Grant Regional Health Center's "Village People" team is a group of employees who have joined together to help support the community. Together they have compiled a list of local exercise opportunities to share. If you would like to submit an update or addition to this list, you can send an email to Hannah at hkirschbaum@grantregional.com.

Download the guide below. It was last updated on March 5, 2025.

Other ideas for indoor exercise

  • Online videos: There are many free online videos on websites such as YouTube that can be watched on a mobile device, tablet or smart/connected TV!
  • Dance party: Turn on the radio and show off your moves! This can be a fun way to improve your mood with some laughter too.
  • Do some chores: Double your productivity! Pick something that will get you moving and accomplish a task in your home. Ideas could include vacuuming or other types of cleaning, organizing a closet, etc.
  • Add movement to what you're already doing: Try to take some breaks when sitting for long periods of time. Caught in a great book or show? Set a timer every 15 minutes to do some jumping jacks, or use some hand weights to do a few bicep curls!
  • Change up your indoor scenery: Consider walking laps somewhere indoor, such as the local grocery store, a public building, shopping mall, etc. Depending on your community - there may be a school or community building that welcomes indoor walking. (Make sure you have permission, of course).
