Allie Klein, BSN, RN, of Grant Regional Health Center, was recognized this week as a recipient of The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses (The DAISY Award). Allie currently serves as Registered Nurse in the Emergency & Med/Surg Departments, she began her tenure at Grant Regional as an RN in 2015 and completed her BSN in 2021.

The DAISY Foundation, which stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstems, was established in 1999 by the family of Patrick Barnes. Nurses across the world can be nominated to receive a DAISY by anyone in the organization - patients, family members, other nurses, physicians, other clinicians, and staff - anyone who experiences or observes extraordinary compassionate care being provided by a nurse.

Allie’s nomination by a grateful mother to a patient involved in a car accident, highlighted her calm demeanor, professionalism, and empathy. The nomination included, “Allie is an inspiration and true role model. She is the definition of all for one and one for all. She made sure we were as comfortable and content as possible given everything we were going through. She is one of a kind. I pray nothing like this happens again but if it does, we find comfort in knowing that Allie might happen to be there again.”

The nomination continues, “She did not make us feel like an inconvenience because her shift was over but showed true concern about any questions and/or concerns that we had in case something was missed. She did not have to check in on us, but she did, and we will never forget it. Her ability to not only make sure that my daughter, who was in the accident, was ok and didn’t need anything at the moment but comprehension of how this was affecting my daughter with Autism based on her own personal experience with Autism, melted my heart.”

7 nominations were received for nurses at Grant Regional Health Center were nominated for the DAISY Award in the past six months. Grant Regional Health Center accepts nominations for the DAISY Award throughout the year, and the nomination committee reviews from these nominations to select a recipient twice in the year. During each DAISY Award Ceremony, partners serve cinnamon rolls in honor of Patrick Barnes. Barnes routinely requested this treat for nurses who cared for him during his illness, as a way to share his gratitude to them.
