Grant Regional Health Center is proud to add EEG (electroencephalogram) services so that patients do not need to travel far for specialized care or testing. EEG is a crucial diagnostic tool and first step in treating various neurological conditions, including epilepsy, strokes, seizures, and headaches. Offering this important service is a significant advancement in local treatment accessibility for these serious conditions.

An EEG is a specialized test that uses small electrodes (discs) to measure electrical activity in the brain. EEGs are typically used to diagnose a seizure disorder (such as epilepsy), evaluate brain activity after a head injury, identify brain dysfunction that may result from other brain disorders, diagnose sleep disorders, or to look for other advanced neurological diseases.

By offering this service locally, patients can receive timely and accurate diagnoses without the need to travel long distances, which can be challenging for those dealing with health issues.

“With this new service we can diagnose neurological conditions earlier and initiate the right treatment plan faster,” said Destani Kieler, Respiratory Therapist/EEG Tech at Grant Regional.

“Grant Regional saw the need for this service locally – and I’m grateful for their support to further my education to complete advance training and certification as an EEG Technologist (EEG.T.) It’s exciting to offer EEGs closer to home, and in turn, provide better care for our patients.”

With this new addition, Grant Regional can enhance collaboration between local and regional specialists and primary care physicians, facilitating comprehensive and coordinated care for patients. Early detection and diagnosis are essential for effective treatment and management of these conditions, potentially improving patients' outcomes and quality of life.

Destani will work closely with Grant Regional's Neurologist Dr. Debasish Bhattacharyya, who will read and interpret the results and provide a thorough review and treatment recommendation for his patients.

“A seizure is actually a quite serious medical event, so it’s really important to get an accurate diagnosis. It will be very helpful for the patients if they don’t have to travel for a test that could be done here,” explains Dr. Bhattacharyya.

Purchasing the EEG was made possible through generous donations to the Grant Regional Health Center Foundation through our Winter Spectacular Fundraising Event, held this past January. “The Foundation would like to thank everyone who supported this initiative; your donations allowed us to fully fund the purchase of the EEG,” added Brandi Riechers, Foundation Director.

With EEG services now in Lancaster, this represents a significant advancement in local healthcare accessibility, bringing essential diagnostic capabilities closer to home and improving access to care for individuals with neurological conditions.
